FOR ONE NIGHT, THE RABBITOHS WORE WHITE: THE STORY OF JAI ARROW'S JERSEY

In the world of rugby league, jerseys often tell the story of a club.

This one tells the story of a teammate, father, husband and fighter in every sense of the word.

When the South Sydney Rabbitohs made the decision to honour Jai Arrow and support his fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND), they wanted a jersey that stripped everything back to what mattered most.

No colours. No distractions.

Just one name, Arrow.

As Rabbitohs skipper Cameron Murray shared, the jersey was designed to carry a simple message:

“We’ve got your back, Arrow.”

And as the players ran out last night, Murray’s words rang true. Every Rabbitoh took the field with Arrow’s name on their back.

It began last Thursday, when discussion quickly turned to how the club could stand behind one of its own. One that challenged many of the conventions typically associated with a rugby league jersey.

In a game where colours and logos are often front and centre, the Whiteout Jersey chose to strip everything back; South Sydney set aside its iconic cardinal and myrtle, commercial partners agreed to forgo their logos and for one night, identities were put aside to focus on Jai.

Ahead of the jersey’s arrival sat an extraordinary effort from the Rabbitohs, suppliers and partners to bring the initiative to life in just a matter of days. From the outset, there was a shared understanding of the significance of the project and the importance of delivering it in a way that did the occasion justice.

Final approval for the jersey was received on Thursday afternoon, and within 24 hours, production was underway. As game day was fast approaching, every stage of the project required immediate action from all parties.

Operating under a tight production timeline, more than 150 teamwear items were manufactured before being dispatched from the factory on Friday evening. After travelling internationally over the weekend, the kit arrived in Australia and was delivered to the South Sydney playing group in time for their final preparations before last night’s game.

What would normally take weeks was completed in a matter of days.

Complementing the playing strip were a special run of warm-up tees. Rather than carrying individual player names, every member of the squad wore Arrow’s name and playing number, 1166.

The motivation behind the jersey’s launch was best captured in the club’s words:

“Stripped back. Past the colour. Past the noise. As far as it goes.

One name left on the back of the jersey. The man who earned it.”

For us, that phrase formed more than a campaign line and became the sentiment behind the entire tribute.

In addition to having the honour of producing the jersey, it has been priced to maximise fundraising efforts for Jai, his family and treatment.

We have ensured the impact of the initiative extends well beyond last night’s game.

Classic Sportswear would like to give a special thanks to the team at the South Sydney Rabbitohs Football Club for delivering the initiative with the care and attention it deserved.
